Ridesharing apps are an easy way to make some extra money or even full-time income. Companies such as Uber, Lyft, and Via have become increasingly popular over the past few years due to their increased efficiency and reduced costs.
With an increased demand for this kind of rides came a lot of opportunities. You, the driver, have more choice than before and the chance to make more money ridesharing.

However, a lot of drivers just like yourself wonder which ridesharing app is more lucrative – Lyft or Uber? It is a natural question that stems from your desire to get the most from your time on the road, the time that you spend sharing your vehicle with other riders. After all, who doesn’t want to get more out of their time spent working?

There are a few things you need to consider when contemplating how being an Uber driver vs Lyft is going to work for you. The table below is based on my own driving experience with both platforms, their requirements, commissions and a few reviews I have found online. CommissionUber has recently updated their pay structure. Drivers no get paid a base fare (varies, mine is $1.28) + distance (I get $0.7125 per mile) + time (I get paid $0.15/min or $9 per hour of driving with a rider in your car)+ surge (during certain hours, in certain high demand areas) + 100% of the tips (so far Uber riders are not very good tippers) + additional fees (such as a cancellation fee, clean up fee, etc). This is based on my own experience, your own results may vary based on your location, hours and many other factors. Keep in mind that the commission and pay structure may change at any time.Lyft takes out an upfront 25% commission out of my trips. Tips are 100% mine.
